James webb space telescope jupiter nasa1/27/2024 ![]() Twelve of those transients were located in three galaxies that are highly magnified by gravitational lensing, and are likely to be individual stars or multiple-star systems that are briefly very highly magnified. ![]() They identified 14 such transients across the field of view. The goal was to search for objects varying in observed brightness over time, known as transients. The research team combined their three epochs of observations, each taken weeks apart, with a fourth epoch from the CANUCS (CAnadian NIRISS Unbiased Cluster Survey) research team. While the new Webb observations contribute to this aesthetic view, they were taken for a specific scientific purpose. NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI Christmas Tree Galaxy Cluster “The whole picture doesn’t become clear until you combine Webb data with Hubble data,” said Windhorst. Some galaxies also appear very red because they contain copious amounts of cosmic dust that tends to absorb bluer colors of starlight. Those colors give clues to galaxy distances: The bluest galaxies are relatively nearby and often show intense star formation, as best detected by Hubble, while the redder galaxies tend to be more distant as detected by Webb. The broad range of wavelengths, from 0.4 to 5 microns, yields a particularly vivid landscape of galaxies. To make the image, in general the shortest wavelengths of light were color-coded blue, the longest wavelengths red, and intermediate wavelengths green. “We are building on Hubble’s legacy by pushing to greater distances and fainter objects,” said Rogier Windhorst of Arizona State University, principal investigator of the PEARLS program (Prime Extragalactic Areas for Reionization and Lensing Science), which took the Webb observations. Webb’s infrared view significantly bolsters this deep look by going even farther into the early universe with its infrared vision. Hubble pioneered the search for some of the intrinsically faintest and youngest galaxies ever detected. This cluster was the first of a set of unprecedented, super-deep views of the universe from an ambitious, collaborative Hubble program called the Frontier Fields, inaugurated in 2014. It includes a bounty of galaxies outside the cluster and a sprinkling of sources that vary over time, likely due to gravitational lensing – the distortion and amplification of light from distant background sources. The image reveals a wealth of details that are only possible to capture by combining the power of both space telescopes. Diego (Instituto de Física de Cantabria, Spain), J. In this image, blue represents data at wavelengths of 0.435 and 0.606 microns (Hubble filters F435W and F606W) cyan is 0.814, 0.9, and 1.05 microns (Hubble filters F814W, and F105W and Webb filter F090W) green is 1.15, 1.25, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.6 microns (Hubble filters F125W, F140W, and F160W, and Webb filters F115W and F150W) yellow is 2.00 and 2.77 microns (Webb filters F200W, and F277W) orange is 3.56 microns (Webb filter F356W) and red represents data at 4.1 and 4.44 microns (Webb filters F410M and F444W). The resulting wavelength coverage, from 0.4 to 5 microns, reveals a vivid landscape of galaxies whose colors give clues to galaxy distances: The bluest galaxies are relatively nearby and often show intense star formation, as best detected by Hubble, while the redder galaxies tend to be more distant, or else contain copious amount of dust, as detected by Webb. Gigi hadid zayn malik religion1/27/2024 ![]() Zayn is routinely touted as Britain’s most famous Muslim. There’s no point in keeping shit to yourself.’ People used to not talk about emotion because they felt a sense of shame, but I feel a sense of progression with it.” He’s a huge guy, he works out a lot, but he’s always like, ‘You’ve got to express your emotions. My dad has always been very supportive in that manner, too. There are more mixed-race people around now.” If anything, he says he is as defined by being raised in a domestic matriarchy, with five aunties and three sisters, as well as Trisha. “That was nobody’s fault, other than learning these things.” He sees the current chaos of the race debate as a process of mass learning, and is optimistic. ‘Who’s the brown person? Is it your mum or is it your dad?’” But he’s magnanimous. “That was confusing for people, they didn’t really understand. “I did see the segregation,” he says of being the son of a British-Pakistani father and mother of Irish descent. Raised by a dinner-lady mum, Trisha, who converted to Islam, and stay-at-home dad, Yaser, he was eight the year of the Bradford race riots in 2001. His life has, in many ways, been a bellwether for modern Britain. He’s talked about eating disorders (movingly, he says it was about being able to control one thing in the madness of the pop years) and the occasionally crippling anxiety that means it is only now that he can contemplate going on tour by himself. If mental health is now an acceptable zone for celebrity interviews, Zayn can take some of the credit. That was a year after he fled One Direction, in March 2015, when the world’s most successful group was at the hormone-addled apex of its fame. Though, as per his instructions, I must dutifully point out that it’s a simple “Zayn” these days, ever since the 25-year-old boyband survivor from Bradford with perfect hair and poptastic falsetto dispensed with his surname and went fully Cher. Australia housing bubble 20211/26/2024 ![]() One thing Frydenberg could do that would benefit borrowers is abandon his quest to kill the responsible lending laws and ask the Australian Securities and Investments Commission to vigorously enforce the standards. Its role is to protect banks from collapsing, and by extension the Australian economy. Unfortunately, Apra’s not there to protect individual borrowers at risk of drowning in a sea of debt. ![]() The CFR discussed possible macroprudential responses last week and said Apra will publish a paper on what it might do “over the next couple of months”. Apra has a lot of power, so there are various ways it can accomplish this, but previous measures have included making it more expensive for banks to make interest-only or investor loans, and simply telling banks to tighten their standards. The regulator can use what are called “macroprudential” measures to reduce the amount banks can lend. What can Apra do to rein in the housing market? The move, which contradicted the recommendations of the banking royal commission, was publicly supported by the RBA, despite the bank’s staff fearing that “looser lending standards” and “optimistic assessments of risk” could entice Australians to take on too much debt when coupled with record low rates and booming house prices.Īt the time, Frydenberg said the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority had powers to tighten lending standards if things got out of hand – a theme to which he has returned in recent days after regulators flagged there was a problem. ![]() In September last year, he announced he wanted to get rid of responsible lending laws designed to stop banks lending customers more money than they can cope with repaying. Until recently, the treasurer Josh Frydenberg thought letting credit rip was a good way to power the economy out of the Covid-19 recession. This in turn could result in reduced spending, both directly as a result of a decline in turnover and through the wealth effect.” What is the federal government doing? “Second, if rapid price rises ultimately prove to be unsustainable they could lead to sharp declines in price and turnover in the future. “First, rapid price rises can increase the likelihood that some new borrowers will over-stretch their financial capacity in order to obtain a new loan, making them more likely to reduce their consumption in response to a shock to their incomes,” she said. The statement came after a speech from the RBA’s assistant governor Michele Bullock, who last week said the bank was closely watching the buying and borrowing boom.īullock said bulging mortgage debt could make an economic downturn worse in two ways. Translated from regulator-speak, this means the CFR is concerned people are borrowing much more despite wage growth in Australia being stuck in the extremely sluggish to non-existent state it’s been in for years. The Council of Financial Regulators met last week and on Wednesday issued a statement saying it was mindful that “a period of credit growth materially outpacing growth in household income would add to the medium-term risks facing the economy, notwithstanding that lending standards remain sound”. Are there risks and are experts concerned? As a result, the average home loan rate is about 2.3% – well below inflation, which is currently at 3.8%.Īlso fuelling the boom has been an increase in household savings, caused by people who are working from home during the pandemic, reducing their spending.
